Outstanding Colorado State University graduates and friends will honor Mariah Kincaid of Palmer at the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards, Sept. 29 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland, Colo.

Kincaid will receive the Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award at the award ceremony. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food science and a minor in French.

She also received the College of Applied Human Sciences Outstanding Senior Award; a University Honors Scholar, was president of the Student Health Advisory Council; ER visit coordinator for Premedica, a group of pre-med students who want an inside look at ER medicine; student coordinator for the MCAT prep course; cultural mentor for incoming international students; and tutor for the human physiology course.

She spent a semester studying abroad in France in order to gain proficiency in the French language, and used her language skills during a recent summer medical internship in West Africa, where she treated HIV-positive patients and others who have very limited access to medical care.

Kincaid was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Golden Key International Honor Society for involvement and achievement within French, nutrition, and hard-science courses while also meeting the University Honors Program standards and rigorous premedical curriculum requirements.

She is now in a four-year dual-degree program at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, pursuing both an M.D. and a master’s in public health. Her goal is to specialize in a pediatric field. Kincaid is passionate about helping low-income individuals and envisions working with the World Health Organization or Doctors Without Borders in the future, using her public health, nutrition, and language background.
