• 2011 Palmer High School graduate Heather Bachelder is one of 100 winners nationwide selected to receive a State Farm Insurance Companies Foundation Scholarship. She will receive $6,650 a year for four years of her college education. Bachelder, a National Merit Scholarship "Commended Student," recently completed her first semester at the University of Oregon, where she is pursuing a double major in linguistics and music/voice.

• Meredith Mapes of Palmer was named to the dean's list at Eastern Oregon University for the fall semester.
