• Army Pvt. Jacob J. Evans graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. The son of Lara Stanley of Palmer, and John Evans of Leavenworth, Kansas, Evans is a 2011 graduate of C. Milton Wright High School, Bel Air, Maryland.

• Colony High School seniors Emma German, Nicholas Harrison, and Jamie Schwantes have been named 2015 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, three of 16,000 high school students nationwide who have achieved the same status for top academic performance. They are each in the running for one of 7,600 scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered in the spring, once the finalists are announced.
