• Air Force Airman Edward E. Shadow II graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Edward and Stefanie Shadow of Palmer and a 2011 graduate of Palmer High School.
• Ayla Loper of Talkeetna was one of 106 students selected to receive a 2014 Horatio Alger National Scholarship. She will enroll at Colorado College to study pre-physical therapy this fall.
• Governor Sean Parnell has named Matanuska Susitna Borough Mayor Larry DeVilbiss to serve on the Municipal Advisory Gas Project Review Board, which was created by the governor to understand the potential impacts and benefits of a major natural gas project on communities throughout the state.
• Thomas Rodamer of Wasilla presented a research project titled Oral Cancer in America” during Undergraduate Scholarship Celebration Day May 8 at Central College, Pella, Iowa. The event provided more than 130 students with the opportunity to showcase their research and projects in a variety of disciplines. He is majoring in exercise science.
• Traci K. Sanders of Wasilla has been certified in 11 to 17 by Professional Tennis Registry. A comprehensive examination is used to determine each member’s rating. Sanders received the Associate Instructor rating. PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with 14,800 members in 121 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers an coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
