Zugg receives ROTC scholarship

Palmer’s Eliza B. Zugg has received a three-year Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarship to attend the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn. Scholarships are awarded on a merit basis, reflecting academic achievement, extracurricular activities, physical fitness, specific performance or accomplishment, leadership abilities, and personal interviews. Scholarship recipients are enrolled as members of the Army ROTC battalion at their colleges.

The scholarship entitlements include tuition and fees, as well as an annual book allowance, and a monthly stipend for up to 10 months of each school year the scholarship is in effect.

Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program requirements, the student receives a bachelor’s degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army. All scholarship students incur a military service obligation of eight years, which may be fulfilled by either serving on active duty or in the Reserve Components of the Army.

Zugg is the daughter of Ronald and Patricia Zugg of Palmer, Alaska.

Palmer student receives MSU Moorhead scholarship

Palmer’s Benjamin Button has received a $4,000 University Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Button is the child of Donna Button, Palmer Ark., and intends to major in exercise science.

The University Scholarship awards $1,000 for the freshman year and is given to students admitted to MSUM with a composite ACT score of 24-25 and a high school rank in the top 50 percent, or a composite ACT score of 21-23 and a high school class rank in the top 10 percent. It’s renewable for a maximum of four years with a 3.5 GPA.

Minnesota State University Moorhead is a comprehensive regional university enrolling approximately 7,500 students. MSU Moorhead is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
