Yeoman 1st Class Johnny Flynn, son of Bill and Monika Flynn from Wasilla, Alaska, was awarded the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal April 18 by Vice Adm. Mary Jackson, commander, Navy Installations Command during a CNIC all-hands call held at CNIC headquarters on the Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. Flynn was recognized for his hundreds of hours of volunteer work with organizations including Veterans Alive and the Special Olympics.

Caitlin Pinkerton of Wasilla graduated in December 2016 from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., with a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in hotel & tourism management. She currently owns and operates a clothing boutique. She is the daughter of Rick and Christy Pinkerton of Wasilla.

Annika Svoboda of Wasilla, a Rockhurst University student, was recently inducted into Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society. It is among the highest honors in the field of French and the oldest academic honor society for a modern foreign language in the United States, according to a press release. Students in the organization are recognized for outstanding scholarship in the French language and culture. Rockhurst University is one of 28 Catholic, Jesuit universities in the United States.

Grantham University recently announced its March local graduates of the university's online degree and certificate programs. They included:

Chuck Jenkins, Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies

Roy Mathews, Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Tech

Paul Moma, Masters of Business Administration in Project Management

Grantham University was founded in 1951 by Donald Grantham, “a World War II veteran with a vision to make education achievable for military service members and veterans,” according to a news release.

Joshua Goodwin of Palmer recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics, philosophy and economics and a minor in theology from The King's College in New York City. Goodwin’s achievements also included the Presidential Scholarship, and being named a Fellow at the Charles Koch Institute. The King's College is a Christian liberal arts college in New York City's Financial District.
