People We Know: April 8, 2012

• Palmer resident Meredith Mapes made the dean's list for the winter term at Eastern Oregon University. She graduated from Palmer High in 2011 and is the daughter of John and Marilyn Mapes of Palmer.

• Sutton Public Library director Nancy Bertels was reappointed to the 12-member Advisory Council on Libraries, which advises the Alaska State Library Administration. She has been the director of the Sutton Public Library since 1983.

• Colony High School junior Kendra McPhail was selected for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. She is the daughter of Lebron and Charlotte McPhail.

• Colony High School senior Abraham Meyerhofer is a Presidential Scholars Candidate and National Merit Scholarship finalist.

• Goose Bay Elementary teacher Katie Conover is the Alaska Society for Technology in Education’s 2012 Teacher of the Year.
