• Alex Hills of Palmer was inducted into the new Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame Dec. 1. The induction ceremony took place at a recent meeting of the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation. He was honored for his work in building Alaska’s rural telecommunications systems and for leading the team that built the world’s first Wi-Fi network. The Statewide Committee for Research recently created the Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame. Hills, professor emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University, will chair the subcommittee charged with identifying future innovators for the Hall of Fame.
• Melissa Viator of Wasilla was initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at University of Alaska Anchorage. Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

• Concordia University sophomore Cameron Christiansen of Palmer participated as a Bass II in A Cappella and Male Chorus during the “Christmas at Concordia” concerts Dec. 5-7 at St. John Lutheran Church at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska.
• The State Board of Education and Early Development named Mat-Su Career and Technical High School student Alec Burris as its student adviser-elect, beginning July 1, 2015.
