Lowther, Harris wed in May 29 ceremony

Melissa Lowther and Garnet Harris were married in a May 29, 2017, ceremony at the Palmer Community Center. Paul Claus officiated.

Lowther is the daughter of Jim and Carol Lowther of Chugiak. She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing science from the University of Alaska Anchorage and is the school nurse for Machetanz Elementary in Palmer.

Harris is the son of Arouna Davies and Dulcie Harris. He is a graduate of Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, Texas, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics. He is employed as a tutor.

Melissa’s maid of honor was Christina Lowther of Palmer. Bridesmaids included Ivy Bowler, Karin Parcha and Kristine Preiss, all of Anchorage. The flower girls were Phobe and Elsa of Anchorage and Irishka of Los Angeles.

Garnet’s best man was Arouna Davies Jr. of Houston, while groomsmen included Jesse Turner of Memphis, Tennessee, Nathaniel Lowther of Chugiak and George Mathews of Jacksonville.

Music for the wedding was provided by Todd Broste and Megan Kemp.

The reception also was held at the Palmer Train Depot, where Jesse Turner provided the entertainment.

After a honeymoon trip to Hawaii, the couple plans to live in Texas.

Rachael Huffman and Rikki Swetzof of Palmer graduated from Western Oregon University in commencement exercises this spring. Huffman received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice, while Swetzof received an applied baccalaureate in computer science. The university is in Monmouth, Oregon.

McKinley Brock of Wasilla qualified for the spring 2017 dean's list at Seaton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. Qualifications for dean's list recognition at Seaton Hall include enrolling as a full-time matriculated student with a minimum of 12 undergraduate credits and completing all courses with a GPA of 3.4 or above.

Jake C. Lessard of Palmer and Kamber M. Lucas and Mariana Marvel of Wasilla were recognized as dean’s list recipients for the spring semester at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

Etienne Kinney of Meadow Lakes and Jenna Fuller of Wasilla were named to the honors list for the spring semester at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota. Kinney, a sophomore double major in aviation and interdisciplinary studies, was named to the honor list, while Fuller, a senior dental hygiene major, was named to the high honor list.
