Harman, Trezise married in January ceremony

Donald Harman and Virginia Trezise were married Jan. 25 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Palmer. Father Jaime Mencias and Deacon Harry Moore officiated the ceremony.

Virginia, a Sutton resident, was given in marriage by her son, Larry Clark, and was joined by maid of honor Suzanne Coomes of Albany, Georgia. She is the daughter of Paul and Maria Yandell of Bryan, Texas.

Donald, the owner of aircraft service company Harman’s Repair Station, is the son of Delbert and Stella Harman. He was joined by best man Steven Jordan of Eagle River and ring bearer Tobin Blydenburgh of Palmer.

Ushers were Steven Jordan and Colleen Gould of Eagle River. Ashleigh Hecimovich provided the music for the ceremony.

The family writes: “A reception was held directly after this mid-day wedding in the St. Michaels Social Hall where food and refreshments were served. A toast by the best man and matron of honor as well as the first dance of the wedding couple, the cutting of wedding cake were performed. Attending from the bride’s family: son, Larry and Donna Clark; daughter, Riley and Dallas Hendrickson. Groom’s family in attendance: mother, Stella Harman; brothers, Rick Harman, Ed and Connie Harman, David and Gail Harman; niece, Kimberly and Jerel Price; nephews, Ryan and Adair Harman, Josh and Holly Harman and Jordan Harman. Not in attendance from the bride’s family: mother, Maria Yandell; brothers, David and Marie Yandell, Robert Yandell; sister, Carla and Timothy Brundidge from out of state.

“Attendees came from Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Sutton, Valdez and Wasilla, Alaska; Lyons, Oregon; San Tan Valley, Arizona; Albany, Georgia and numerous friends and parish family members also attended. A rehearsal dinner was held the night before the wedding on Jan. 24, at the Independence Bar and Grill in Palmer, where Dallas Hendrickson provided the music.”

The couple lives in Sutton.

Palmer teens to receive Spirit of Youth awards

Two teens from Palmer will be among the recipients of the 19th annual Spirit of Youth Awards on March 23 in Anchorage.

Shaela Asbury and Jedediah Dean are two of 16 teens and youth groups from communities across the state to be selected by the Spirit of Youth’s Teen Advisory Council.

Asbury will receive the Role Model Award. According to a news release from the organization, teens nominated for the Role Model Award lend a helping hand to peers and younger youth in their community.

“Asbury has created, organized and directed Agents for Change, a youth-led initiative at Colony Middle School designed to study and raise awareness about local and global issues where children face adversity and crisis,” according to the release. “Agents for Change members fundraise for organizations that support children.”

Dean will receive the Discovery Award, which accomplishments made by youth in environmental advocacy projects and technology ventures.

“Jedediah Dean has been conducting independent research to determine whether radiation levels have been rising on the beaches of Prince William Sound as a result of the 2011 nuclear disaster at Fukushima,” according to the news release. “Jedediah’s work has won state and international awards.”

The awards reception will start at 6 p.m., with the ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. at the Anchorage Marriott Hotel. Tickets can be purchased at spiritofyouth.org.

According to the news release, sponsors of the Spirit of Youth Awards include Enstar, Atwood Foundation, BP, Mat-Su Health Foundation, the UA College Savings Plan and the Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund.
