With the snow having melted and the sun staying out longer, drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and outdoor adventurers on ATVs have definitely noticed the orange barrels going up and heavy equipment operating all hours of the day. Yep, construction season is here!
Among the most impactful projects is the Parks Highway expansion along the Pittman Road/Big Lake Road corridor. Once completed, that section of Parks Highway will be a 2-lane divided highway with a traffic light at the intersection of Parks Highway and Big Lake Road.
Drivers will notice a change in the traffic pattern this weekend as the intersection will be temporarily shifted to the new bridge and embankment. The shift will allow installation of an additional temporary culvert, which will allow continued construction of the Little Meadow Creek streambank stabilization and erosion protection. It is all part of completing the bridge at that intersection.
The traffic pattern shift is expected to only last until May 7, according to a release by the Department of Transportation and QAP, who are working on the Parks Highway construction project.
Throughout the rest of the spring and summer, crews will work to install light poles, touch-up striping, and other steps with the goal to have Phase 3 completed at the conclusion of the 2022 construction season.
As always, be alert for workers and equipment along the roadway shoulder, and flaggers working to direct travelers safely through the roadwork.
