PALMER — A mixed martial arts fighter formerly of Palmer is back on national television Saturday.
Jake Heun, a 2006 gradute of Palmer High School, is part of the World Series of Fighting 30 main card that will be featured on the NBC Sports Network Saturday evening.
Heun, who now lives and trains in Florida, will fight in the second of four televised bouts in the event, which is scheduled to start Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and Las Vegas. Heun, who fights with the moniker “The Honey Bear,” will face Vinny “Pezao” Magalhaes in three-round bout in the light heavyweight division. Heun, 28, sports a 9-4 record. He has a two-fight win streak. He earned a split decision win over Clinton Williams in WSOF 26 in December of 2015, and beat Devin Clark by submission in WSOF 22 in August of 2015. Heun’s last loss came to Clifford Starks in WSOF 19 in March of 2015. Saturday, Starks is fighting David Branch in the five-round WSOF Main Event.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Heun boasts a 76-inch reach.
Prior to his mixed martial arts career, Heun played Division I football at Hawaii. After redshirting in 2008, Heun appeared in 13 games and made three starts as a linebacker in 2009. As a senior, Heun played linebacker and fullback at Hawaii.
