To the editor:
As the Palmer High School Nordic ski team begins a great season ahead, we wanted to begin our season by expressing our sincere gratitude to the Fireweed Bike Race and race coordinator Ben Ball for the opportunity this past summer to assist with the Fireweed 400 bike race as a fundraiser.
Not only was this a great opportunity to be part of an amazing community event, it will be a tremendous boost to our skiers for the season financially. The team and booster club work tirelessly each year to raise funds to offset expenses such as gas money, wax, buying new ski gear and food to fuel our team. This year we anticipate about 40 students joining the Palmer High Nordic team.
Not only has the Fireweed Race helped financially, it has fostered the opportunity to introduce our students to the lifelong sport of skiing, healthy living and to be an active participant at Palmer High School.
We very much appreciate the opportunity and want to publicly thank the Fireweed 400 for its investment.
