PHS prepares to host biggest wrestling tourney in state

PALMER — Palmer High School is hosting the biggest prep wrestling tournament in the state this weekend.

The Lancer Smith Memorial, which begins Friday morning at PHS, will feature 29 teams this season from across Alaska. It’s the state’s largest prep wrestling event and features both 123A schools and 4A programs.

Host Palmer is the defending Lancer Smith champion.

Wrestling in the 32-man brackets starts Friday at 9 a.m. Semifinals are expected to start about 6:30 p.m. that evening.

Wrestling continues at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the championship finals scheduled for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Seven teams are also slated to compete in duals action Thursday at PHS.
