Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Phyllis Pauline Klabunde, 80, died peacefully at her home in Wasilla on March 9, 2005. A memorial service was held Friday, March 11, at Sunny Knik Chapel. Pastor Duane Guisinger officiated.
Mrs. Klabunde was born Feb. 20, 1925, in Shell Lake, Wis., where she was raised and graduated from high school. She became a resident of Anchorage in 1974. There she worked for various employers, but she was mainly a wife, mother and homemaker. She lived with her family in Anchorage until 1992, when they made Wasilla their home. She was a den mother for the Cub Scout troops of her sons and was a member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, picnics with her family and traveling.
Her son wrote, "A genuine mother hen - happiest when she had all her chicks close to the nest. The most caring and compassionate mother a son could ever wish for!"
Her parents and 10 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Klabunde is survived by her husband, Paul Klabunde; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Susan Klabunde, Glen and Cheryl Klabunde, Guy and Dianna Klabunde and Scott and Darlene Klabunde; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Nick Bays; brother, Ernest Parker; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
