Pill grabber nabbed on the lam

WASILLA — It was a short run from the law Saturday for a man facing robbery charges for the 2006 holdup of the Susitna Professional Pharmacy.

Alaska State Troopers report authorities went to an apartment on Tweed Court in Wasilla to look for Brian J. Shook, 23. The man troopers encountered there, Ray Dobson, 32, of Wasilla, said he hadn’t seen Shook in two weeks.

Troopers ran a records check on Dobson, found he had a no-bail warrant out of Black River Falls, Wis., and arrested him. While executing the arrest, troopers spotted Shook jumping from Dobson’s window, according to the report. Troopers then chased Shook into a nearby woods and arrested him.

Shook was initially arrested in May 2006 and charged with robbery and drug misconduct in the January 2006 pharmacy holdup. He has been on the lam since failing to show up for a court hearing scheduled for June 6 of this year.

No one was hurt in the 2006 robbery when two men wearing ski masks pointed pistols at pharmacy employees and made off with pills, no cash. Court records show Shook in 2007 picked up another criminal case for misdemeanor assault and violating his release conditions.

Trooper Investigator Curtis Vik said Shook was out of custody as his case made its way through the legal system. The warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to show up for a court hearing.

“His cohort did his change of plea but he, Shook, did not show up,” Vik said.

The cohort of whom Vik spoke is Brandon Dodd, 27, also charged with robbery and drug misconduct in the case.

According to court records, Shook was last scheduled to take a plea agreement June 6. A new change of plea hearing has been scheduled for July 3.

Dodd, court records show, made the June 6 hearing and is set to receive his sentence Sept. 26. Dodd was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility without bail, according to troopers. Prisons records show Dodd remains jailed in the medium-security section of the Palmer Correctional Center.
