The Palmer Pioneers split with a pair of Anchorage programs during the first weekend of Alliance Baseball League play. Palmer scored an 8-1 over East in Anchorage June 13 and suffered a 9-6 loss to West Anchorage the following afternoon at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
Evan Walker used three hits to help the Pioneers score a win over the Thunderbirds, their first of the season. Walker also scored and drove in a run. Kaden Ketchum and Alex Manning finished with two RBI each. Sam Miller scored a pair of runs.
Palmer scored six of its runs in the fourth inning. Manning sparked the Pioneers during the inning with a two-run double. Kechum also had an RBI double during the fourth.
A Palmer rally fell short on Sunday. West had built an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Pioneers were able to cut into that advantage with four runs in the sixth. Owen Hayes and Ben Alley led the Pioneers with two RBI each. Six different Pioneers scored a run.
The Wasilla Road Warriors improved to 3-0 with a 12-2 win over Eagle River Sunday.
Nolan Murphy blasted a three-run homer in the win. Clayton Boyett doubled twice and drove in two runs. Jacob Gilbert was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Ten different Road Warriors scored at least one run..
