PALMER — More than 45 sixth, seventh and eighth graders participated in the annual Palmer Junior Middle School Geography Bee earlier this month.
Gene Stone, superintendent of the Mat- Su school district and Dr. Monica Goyette, assistant superintendent, showed their support by attending the event.
Linda Jo Klapperich, teacher at PJMS, is the coordinator of the Geo Bee.
Angelina Klapperich, a senior at the University of Alaska Anchorage, helped her mom by giving out certificates to each student.
The contest is part of the National Geographic Bee, an event that is designed to motivate students to learn about the world and how it works. The national competition features a first prize of a $50,000 college scholarship. Participants come from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and US territories.
