PALMER -- The Palmer Junior Middle School boys and girls track and field squads each won their respective classes at the Palmer Invitational Middle School Track and Field Meet at Palmer High School on Wednesday.
The PJMS boys, who earned 165 total points, were led by a trio of record-breaking performances. Eighth grader Jake Parisien won both the 800-and 1600-meter runs in record breaking fashion, shattering 10-year-old marks in each event. Parisien also helped his 4x400 squad break a record. The team of Parisian, Lucas Secoy, Ryan Cunningham and Bryce Jacobson set a new mark of 4 minutes and 15 seconds in the event.
The Palmer girls more than doubled the overall score of the second place finisher, en route to breezing past the competition in the team standings. PJMS finished with 216 total points, far ahead of second-place Colony's 96 points.
"I new we had a strong team," PJMS coach Gary Howell said. "I didn't realize how well the girls would do."
Matti Cox and Karen Oosting each had a pair of wins for the Mini-Moose. Oosting won the 110-meter hurdles and the 100, while Cox finished first in the 400 and 1,600.
Teeland Middle School finished second in the boys' class with 126 and Colony placed third with 42 points. The Teeland girls finished third with 58 points.
