This week is shaping up to be a challenging week.
I started out my morning very healthy, eating a quarter of a cantelope and a banana for breakfast. Then the craziness of the day set in.
I’m working and staying in Anchorage this week because of some long work days and meetings. I had to stop by the office by the office on my way into Anchorage to pick up some supplies and reports. When I arrived, the building alarm was going off; the alarm pad indicated we had a glass break. A quick trip around the building found all glass securely intact, so apparently the wind rattled a few windows setting off the glass break sensors.
A very nice Alaska State Trooper responded to the alarm. After assuring him I was an employee and not a burglar answering his knocks, he came inside and did a quick tour of the building with me. It’s reassuring to know the troopers will, and do, respond to all alarms, but I had not planned this extra time out of my day into my schedule.
Then my printer ran out of ink as I was trying to print out reports and agendas needed for a meeting later in the afternoon. I searched every nook and cranny of the supply closet and couldn’t find any replacement cartridges, to no avail. I seriously considered stealing the black ink cartridge from the ad director’s printer, as he has the same printer as I do, but couldn’t bring myself to do it. Instead, I headed down the road to Fred Meyer to pick up some new cartridges. Another time zapper I hadn’t planned on.
By the time I got everything gathered, bought and inspected, there was no time for lunch. I was also very thirsty and forgot to bring or buy any water. I ended up buying a diet Dr Pepper from the vending machine. My first soda in a month and it really didn’t taste that well.
I made the afternoon meeting and was starving. I did manage to find some water once I got to the hotel, though. By the time dinner time rolled around, I was really hungry. Of course, we were dining out. I didn’t do too badly, but it certainly wasn’t as healthy as eating at home. I ordered halibut, and ate one piece of the crab and artichoke dip on a small piece of bread and one piece of the warm sourdough bread. Once the entrée arrived, I realized I had forgotten to ask them to hold the potatoes. I focused on the halibut and vegetables, but did eat a few bites of the smashed potatoes.
I need to find some safe, portable snacks that I can keep in my car or purse for days like today when there is no time for a meal. If anyone has suggestions, please send them my way!
It’s getting late and I have more meetings in the morning, so ta-ta for now.
