Plane crash injures two

MONTANA CREEK — A pilot and his passenger sustained minor injuries Monday afternoon following a crash on a Susitna River sandbar.

According to a press release from Alaska State Troopers, Tanner Hetz, 22, of Anchorage, was flying the Piper PA-22-160 when he lost control doing practice maneuvers and crashed into a sandbar a half-mile south of the Susitna’s confluence with Montana Creek.

Hetz and his passenger, Petros Mariolis, 20, of Greece, were treated at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
