It never fails. A day or two after I start something I’m injured. It’s never the same place. A foot, a shoulder, a knee.
Much of it comes from being hit from behind four times. Once by a Domino’s Pizza driver that put me inches from death, laying prone in my car in the middle of an intersection in Hialeah, Florida. 18 years later, just seeing a pizza delivery car sends me into a near rage. Not only can you not win a lawsuit against that corporation but the neck pain and degeneration causing pain in weird areas of my body is a constant reminder. At least I have something to blame the discomfort on other than my weight. I had to go to the Wasilla Sports Complex on Monday and thought I’d get a 20 minute power walk in at the same time. I felt great. After 20 minutes, I felt a little winded, slight tightness in my legs but otherwise as if I’d done something. It’s sad, I used to compete in Judo and run middle distance track in high school and now I get tired walking. All was well until later that evening I was reaching into frige for a lime to add to my water cocktail and bang, a stabbing pain in my knee. I thought that would just pass. No, I sit on the couch and , stab, it hits again. So, I tried to find out what position my leg in to cause it. The pain moved to the interior of my knee, no the outside but, maybe the anterior cruciate. My leg was cramping a little down my calf and behind my thigh. Then, in the next minute, it was gone, until my next attempt to get the lime out of the frig. This went on until I went to bed with a pain so sharp and intense that I couldn’t help but cry out. I’m no baby with pain but it’s just such a surprise. I forgot about it for hours and then it came back. I started to dial the phone for a doctor’s appointment and while I was on hold, it stopped. Well, what am I going to tell them if it doesn’t hurt now. I hung up, not making an appointment, and spent an hour shoveling snow off the dog kennel, porches and walkways with no problems. Last night it hit me again so I opted for three ibuprophen and then again this morning. No pain so far but I’m a little jumpy about the stairs and reaching into the frige.
I think I hyper extended my knee in my enthusiasm keep ahead of a pair of walkers on Monday. But does that let anyone off on Biggest Looser, No! I try to keep my own little Jillian in my head. “ Get up!” she screams, "Get the hell up!”
