PALMER — Police have been looking this week for Angie Minnick, wanted for violating her probation on a couple of theft and fraud convictions and her boyfriend, Ryan Burkhart, wanted as a suspect in a Valley robbery.
Minnick, 30, was sentenced in 2006 to a year in prison after admitting to being the culprit behind a string of fraudulent checks passed throughout the Valley. Palmer Police Detective Sgt. Kelly Turney said at the time that Minnick would put genuine routing numbers on checks that led to fake accounts. The checks would bounce only after they made it to the bank.
Since then, Turney said, Minnick has been released from prison and stopped showing up for meetings with her probation officer. Tuesday he said they had a meeting set up for her to turn herself in but it went south.
“Been playing phone tag with both Angie and Ryan,” Turney said Wednesday. “We had a near-miss in Eagle River yesterday.”
As to Burkhart’s charges, Turney had little to offer in the way of specifics since his case did not originate with the Palmer Police Department.
Still, he said, Burkhart, 25, has yet to face his charges in court. In addition to robbery, he faces theft and vehicle theft charges.
Turney urged anyone who sees either suspect to call the Police Department at 745-4811 or Mat-Su Crime Stoppers at 745-7333. Turney urged the public not to confront Minnick or Burkhart but instead to call the police.
“Be a good observer. If they get into the vehicle note what the plate is what the vehicle is,” he said. “Note what they’re wearing.”
