PALMER — Tom Braund doesn’t want you to vote for him on the ballot for Palmer City Council.
Instead, Braund said he would like you to vote for him for borough assembly.
Braund said he knew he wanted to try his hand at politics but wasn’t sure which seat he wanted to run for. So he filled out paperwork for both. His name is on candidates’ lists for the borough assembly and for Palmer City Council.
But he’s dropping out of the Palmer race and throwing his support behind Edna DeVries.
The Palmer race features two open seats holding three-year terms. There are three candidates left in that race: DeVries, Mike Madar and incumbent Kathrine Vanover. The two top vote-getters will be seated.
For his run at the assembly, Braund faces Noel Woods, incumbent Pete Houston and John Leiner in the race for the seat representing Palmer.
Foums take a week off
PALMER — The summer’s series of political forums is taking the week off but will return with Palmer City Council candidates next week.
Palmer City Council candidates will appear Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Palmer Depot. On Sept. 16, the mayoral candidates will be at the same venue, said Diana Straub, who has been organizing the forums on behalf of the Greater Palmer and Greater Wasilla chambers of commerce. Those two forums will conclude the series, which began in June and have featured candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. House of Representatives, borough assembly, school board, Wasilla City Council, and the state House seat representing Greater Palmer.
