Politics should have been put aside for Christmas Eve edition

To the editor,

I couldn't help but notice the juxtaposition on the Christmas Eve editorial page. On the one side, a reprint of the famous “Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus” editorial, which you rightly characterized as “a holiday favorite for the way it taps into the essence of the Christmas spirit.” On the other side, a snarky political cartoon from Chuck Legge.

It’s going to be a very long 10 months ‘til the November election. Partisans of every ideological stripe will have more than ample opportunity to make their views known. Was it too much to ask that you give the political bickering a rest for just one day? On this of all days, Christmas Eve, couldn’t you have just celebrated the spirit of the season?
