Politics should not be a game

To the editor:

Most Republicans will find it easy to see the faults of President Barack Obama (and even make them up). And most Democrat partisans will find it easy to see the faults of President Bush (and even make them up). But the criticism of their own president is, oh so sadly, all but non-existent.

Partisan Republicans will accentuate whatever positives there might be for a Republican president (those positives are few), and accuse the Democrats of bogus attacks and political gamesmanship. And partisan Democrats will accentuate whatever positives there are for a Democrat president and accuse the Republicans of bogus attacks for political gain. It’s sad, but true.

And all these high school football fans will continue to refuse to accept a bad call against their quarterback or anyone else on their beloved team. Bias, bias, bias. Unfortunately, politics is not a high school football game. Politics has people’s lives in the balance. Both parties have faults. And presidents, of both parties, can have, and have had, faults that rise to criminality.
