Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Brooks Patton of Wasilla High was the top finisher in the recent Matanuska-Susitna College High School Portfolio competition, as selected by juror Olga Iagounina, adjunct art professor at MSC from
Russia.
This is the eleventh annual competition and is offered statewide for high school seniors every spring.
Patton will receive 24 credit hours for the year of 2007-2008 at the college.
Second place is, Marina Angel, from Wasilla High School, who will receive 6 credit hours for the fall of 2007.
Third place goes to Ben Hughes, also of Wasilla High School, who along with the others will receive an Award Certificate.
The first place winner's name will be engraved on a permanent brass plaque display in the Art Department at Matanuska-Susitna College.
Patton, whose focus is photography, in his personal narrative stated, “The ability to record history and help people through art and photography, fills me with hope and a sense of being.”
“I plan on trying to be a photojournalist,” he said.
Janet Stuart, art teacher at Wasilla High, art teacher to all of our winners this year, said about Brooks, “He is a mature and cheerful individualŠ. the camera is an extension of his persona”.
Matanuska-Susitna College Art Department congratulates the winners, and thanks all of the participants in this year's high school portfolio competition.
