To the editor,
I have spent the last two weeks at the Mat-Su Borough as an observer to the ballot counting process for the recent municipal election. The process is very complex and one that this year involved 2,300 plus absentee and questioned ballots. Vote totals must match those from the polling location, voter registration must be compared to the state records, addresses must be check for precinct location, to name some of the validation which must take place. I would like to commend the Mat-Su Borough Clerk Lonnie McKechnie and Deputy Clerk Jamie Newman for their very professional handling of the procedure. Their diligence and dedication to a fair, honest and complete count was exemplary.
The Canvass Board, a group of five MSB residents is also to be applauded. The procedure demands great attention to detail. I never once observed an instance where a single vote was treated carelessly or callously
It is reassuring to know that our election results are in such competent and honest hands.
