WASILLA — It’s not usual to see a sporting event postponed due to rain or snow. Sunny weather is typically not a reason, but that’s what happened on Saturday in Wasilla.
The Arctic Predators had been scheduled to host the Wyoming Cavalry in an American Indoor Football Association contest Saturday at the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Arena in Wasilla, but Predators officials postponed the game until June 5 because of the forecast for sunny weather during the Memorial holiday weekend in the Mat-Su Valley.
“We’re calling it a sun-out,” Predators coach Hans Deemer said in a message left for the Frontiersman.
Deemer said he received calls and e-mails from numerous Predators fans and sponsors who were disappointed with the fact that one of the team’s seven home games was scheduled for a weekend during which many locals prefer to be out of town, or just simply outdoors.
All tickets purchased for the May 29 contest will be honored for the June 5 game. The Predators are also hosting a food drive for the Alaska Food Pantry on June 5. Fans who bring two cans of food to the game will save $5 on tickets.
This is the second time this season that a home game against Wyoming had to be postponed. Early in the season, the Cavalry were not able to make a scheduled trip to Wasilla do problems with the travel arrangements.
Wyoming currently sits on top of the AIFA West Division standings.
