PALMER — Palmer had to settle with a rare baseball tie during its first meeting with Grace Christian. But the second crack at the Grizzlies led to a 10-run win for the Moose.
Palmer used an eight-run seventh to post a 14-4 victory over the Grizzlies Thursday at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.
Skyler Hale, James Nelson, Aaron Christiansen and Cade Holland each drove in two runs for the Moose. Holland finished 2 for 3 with two runs and the two RBI. Cody Grogan and Anthony Jones also scored twice, and were among 10 Moose who scored at least one run for Palmer. Luke Guggenmos added two hits in the victory.
Caleb Engst pitched a complete game, scattering six hits over seven innings. Grace didn’t score until the bottom of the seventh. The Grizzlies scored four runs in the frame, but only two were earned.
Palmer opened its season with a 8-8 tie against Grace, a first-year program. The game was suspended due to darkness.
The win opened a four-game road trip for the Moose. Palmer followed with a 15-11 loss at Homer Friday.
Homer opened the game with 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Guggenmos, Hale, Nelson and Holland scored two runs each. Nelson drove in a pair.
Palmer opened a two-day stay in Kodiak with a 10-6 loss to the Bears Friday night. Much like Friday, Palmer faced a big hole early. Kodiak scored eight times in the bottom of the first.
Nelson and Brady Shults drove in two runs each against Kodiak.
Warriors top Kenai
James Arend and Dawson White each knocked in a pair to lead Wasilla to a 10-5 road win over Kenai Central Friday night in Kenai.
Balas Buckmaster scored three runs for the Warriors. Ahrend, Kyle Graham and Ben Werner scored twice for Wasilla.
Grace gets by Colony
Grace Christian scored a 5-1 win over Palmer Friday night in Palmer.
Joe Ryan had two hits and scored the lone run for Colony.
