Prep basketball digest

ANCHORAGE — In a rematch of the 2007 4A state title game, Chugiak’s Liz Meddaugh sank a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds left in regulation to give the Mustangs a 46-44 win over the Colony Knights during the second day of the East T-Bird Classic at East Anchorage High School in Anchorage.

Colony, the winner of the 2007 state title, led 44-42 late in the game but the runner-up Mustangs managed to tie the game before Meddaugh sealed the Chugiak win.

Colony senior guard Maria Bowker hit four three-pointers and led the Knights with a game-high 15 points in the loss. Senior post Alex Coon added 13 points.

Colony edged Ketchikan 67-60 in overtime during the final day of the tournament on Saturday.

Coon scored a game-high 26 to lead the Knights. Senior Kara Larson added 12.

The Knights opened the six-team round-robin style tourney with a 45-38 win over Juneau-Douglas on Thursday.

Senior guard Jackie Hamann was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line during the fourth-quarter to lead the Knights on a 18-7 run during the final eight minutes of play.

Senior Allie Grazulis scored a game-high 16 points in the win.

Warriors sweep Bears

KODIAK — The Wasilla Warriors improved to 3-0 in Northern Lights Conference play with a two-game sweep of the Kodiak Bears at Kodiak High School over the weekend.

Senior Adrese LaVern pumped in a game-high 20 points during a 63-34 win on Saturday to help the Warriors complete the sweep. Junior Cody Pfeifer added 15 points.

On Friday, LaVern scored a game-high 18 in a 56-37 victory.

Wasilla returns to the Valley to host Colony, Tuesday at 8:15 p.m.

Wolves edge Knights

PALMER — Eagle River scored 32 points during the fourth quarter and overtime to post a 64-60 come-from-behind nonconference win over the Colony Knights at Colony High School on Friday.

Colony led 40-32 after the first three quarters.

Elijah Yaw scored eight of his game-high 20 points during the extra period to lead the Wolves to the win. Patrick Dye and Nathaniel Yaw each chipped in 11.

Colony captain John Palmer led the Knights with 17. Senior Bryce Jacobson added 13 points for CHS.

Shootout losses

ANCHORAGE — Point Hope used a late push to edge Houston 58-52 during the second day of the Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond High School in Anchorage on Friday.

Houston led 24-20 at halftime, before Point Hope put together the comeback.

Scott Herman led Houston with 14 points and Zack Quall added 11.

Houston opened tourney play with a 79-34 loss to host Dimond on Thursday.

Herman and Bryan Mason scored 11 points each.
