Prep basketball: Palmer boys 3rd at Dimond tourney

PALMER ¬— During a three-day span, the Palmer Moose played both teams that met in the 2018 3A state title game. And the Moose beat both.

Palmer used a 65-40 win over defending 3A state champion Barrow to finish third in the Dimond Prep Shootout Saturday afternoon at Dimond High School.

The 4A Moose were sparked by a 22-7 first-quarter run against the Whalers. Palmer also outscored Barrow 18-4 in the third quarter. Ronny Marshall led Palmer with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Jacob Titus added 13 points, and Lavar Marshall chipped in 11.

Joe Rankin had a game-high 10 assists.

The game also marked Palmer head coach Jeremy Arnhart’s first meeting against his old team. Arnhart, in his first year with the Moose, led Barrow to three state titles during a four-year span.

Palmer opened the three-day Shootout with a win 45-41 win over Grace Christian, the 2018 3A runner-up, in the quarterfinals. Lavar Marshall finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Titus added 13.

Dimond, the 2018 4A runner-up, beat Palmer 64-21 in the semifinals.
