SEWARD - Houston kept its playoff hopes alive with a 28-21 victory over Seward in Seward on Friday.
Brandon Parks led the way for Houston with more than 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while Israel Morales also added two scores for the Hawks, who moved to 3-2 in the Greatland Conference with the win.
Parks scored on runs of 7 and 21 yards, and Morales added touchdown runs of 14 and 28 yards for Houston, which scored all 28 of its points in the second quarter.
Houston coach Norm Bouchard said the key to the game was Houston’s ability to move the football on the ground.
“We were able to run the ball, which helped us control the clock,” Bouchard said.
Dylan Beck threw two second-half touchdown passes to Robert Perea for the Seahawks to go along with a 63-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Bouchard said the win was big because it means a Houston win next week against Valdez would give the Hawks a spot in the small-schools state playoffs.
“This way it puts us in a situation where we control our own destiny,” Bouchard said.
