Prep football starts: Stars edge Warriors

SOLDOTNA - Wasilla traveled to Soldotna to open the 2010 season against a squad that captured four of the last five small-schools state titles. But the Warriors didn't hit the Peninsula seeing stars.

Soldotna needed a late touchdown to score a 15-7 nonconference victory over the Warriors.

Junior Devon Teeling scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter to give the Warriors a 7-6 lead against a team that won four straight state titles before losing in the state championship game in 2009.

Phil Bennett posted the go-ahead score for Soldotna with about six minutes left in regulation.
