WASILLA — The Houston Hawks notched the shutout Friday, but a late goal Saturday allowed Glennallen/Kenny Lake to force the split in a pair of Greatland Conference hockey games at the Big Lake Recreation Center.
JP Nix used a 10-save shutout to lead the Hawks to a 5-0 win over their conference rival during the first game of the series. Kai Kingery sparked the Houston offense with a three-point night in the win. Kingery scored 17 seconds into the second period to give Houston its first lead. Just more than two minutes later, Kingery set up an Isaac Smoldon goal that gave the Hawks at 2-0 lead. Kingery added his second goal of the game early in the third.
Tyler Chivers and Andrew Natekin also scored in the win.
Glennallen/Kenny Lake’s Gabe Doty scored with 32 seconds left in regulation to lift his squad to a 4-3 victory over the Hawks on Saturday.
Houston trailed 3-1 early in the third, but Kingery pulled his team back into the game. Kingery scored twice during a 16-second span to tie the score at 3. Reed Humphreys also scored in the game, scoring a shorthanded tally midway through the first to give the Hawks the 1-0 advantage.
Doty scored twice in the Glennallen/Kenny Lake win. Miguel Saavedra bagged a goal and two assists. Brian Grams also scored.
