WASILLA - After scoring its first win over a Valley opponent in four years on Friday, Palmer made it two in a row on Saturday.

Senior captain Tyson Alger scored a shorthanded goal in overtime to give the Moose a 4-3 win over the Houston Hawsk on the final day of the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.

On Friday, Palmer scored four times in the third period, and earned a 6-4 win over Wasilla, marking Palmer's first win over a Valley rival - Wasilla, Houston or Colony - since the 2002 season.

Junior Dylan Schindele scored twice and senior Tyler Virgin added a goal and an assist as Palmer improved to 3-1 on the season.

Goaltender Jim Isaacs stopped 33 Houston shots, and the Moose came back from a two-goal deficit to get the win.

Palmer head coach Dino Pagano said more of his players are beginning to show an ability to put the puck in the net. With three goals in two games, Schindele is emerging as a scoring threat.

Dillon Styers gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first period, with a power-play goal and a shorthanded tally. After assisting on both of Styers' goals, blueliner Kaleb Westfall gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead with a score of his own in the second period.

In the tournament's seventh-place game, Wasilla skated past Colony 4-1. Dylan Troisi led the Warriors with two goals.

Later that night, Chugiak defeated West Valley for the Menard Invite title.
