Prep hoops: Knights boys, girls split; Moose swept

PALMER — The Colony Knights used 20 fourth-quarter points to score a big victory on the road Friday.

Colony posted a 70-55 nonconference boys basketball victory over Ketchikan.

Sullivan Menard scored a game-high 25 for the Knights. Eleven of his points came during the fourth quarter. Menard hit four three-pointers in the game. Will Freeman added a trio of threes in the first quarter and scored 14 points.

Marcus Lee led Ketchikan with 21.

The Knights needed the big fourth quarter after a tight first half. The Knights led 23-20 after the first eight minutes and 35-31 at halftime.

Freeman sparked the Knights early in with the three shots from beyond the arc. Colton Spencer also hit two of Colony six first-quarter three-pointers.

Ketchikan salvaged the nonconference split with a 65-53 victory on Saturday. The teams combined for 48 total fouls in the contest. Colony was tagged with 28 fouls, and three different players fouled out.

The Knights led 27-18 at halftime, but Ketchikan put together 47 total points in the second half. Lee scored 11 of his game-high 18 during the final frame for the Kings. Freeman led Colony with 15. Spencer hit three from beyond the arc and added 13 points.

The Colony girls also played to a split at Ketchikan. Colony rebounded from a loss Friday, and posted a 54-50 win over the Kings. Ketchikan opened the series with a 52-48 victory Friday night.

Eagles sweep Moose

West Anchorage scored a pair of nonconference wins at Palmer Friday night.

The Eagles girls used a big fourth quarter to ice a 68-45 win over the Moose. The Eagles outscored Palmer 22-13 during the final eight minutes of play. Kassidy Bowman hit five of Palmer’s 15 total field goals and led the Moose with 16 points. Julie Benshetler added 11.

The West Anchorage boys also had a big second half, scoring a combined 43 points during a 72-51 win over Palmer. Clayton Southwick scored a team-best 16 for Palmer.
