Prep hoops: Knights sweep Moose, Huskies split with Hawks

Eight seconds.

That’s what stood between the upset-minded Palmer Moose and a victory over a rival on their home floor.

But Jaydon Coon had other ideas.

The Colony guard buried a three from the right corner to stun the Moose, and lift the Knights to a 68-67 win Tuesday night at Palmer High School.

Coon hit four threes in the game, including two in the final 80 seconds of play. The Colony guard knocked a shot down at the 1:20 mark to give the Knights a 63-61 lead.

It was the first of four combined threes for the Knights and Moose in the final 80 seconds. Connor Sparrow put Palmer back on top 64-63 with about eight seconds left, and Lukas Owen drilled a three for Palmer with eight seconds remaining.

Colony’s Mylz Mongeau led all scorers with 23 points. Justin Ainsworth added 15 for Colony. Owen paced the Moose with 22.

Palmer led 34-28 at the half and 52-40 after three, but the Knights erupted for 28 fourth-quarter points.

The Colony girls ran past the Moose 60-23 earlier in the evening. Freshmen Taylor Passard (19 points) and Emily DeHart (10 points) led the Knights.

The Redington Huskies held on for a 25-22 girls basketball win over rival Houston Tuesday night. The Hawks outscored Redington 15-7 in the final two quarters, but Redington had built an 18-7 halftime lead.

Janessa Gubler led the Huskies with nine. Kaydence Seymore added six. Danyel Loyd led Houston with eight.

In boys action, Houston edged Redington 54-53.

On Monday night, the Colony girls beat Bartlett 62-55. Passard scored 23 points.
