PALMER — Palmer led early, but the Chugiak Mustangs used a late run to open the season with a 51-40 nonconference win over the Moose Thursday night at Palmer High School.
Chugiak’s Jared Bautista scored six of Chugiak’s points during a 15-5 fourth-quarter run. Bautista finished with 10 in the game. Jason Lombard scored a team-high 12 for the Mustangs.
Palmer led 13-10 after the first quarter and 23-20 at halftime, but managed only two field goals during the final eight minutes of play. Clayton Southwick scored a game-high 17 for Palmer. Payton Martin added 12, hitting four three-pointers in the loss.
