LAS VEGAS — The Colony Knights girls basketball team easily won its opening round game of the Lady Wolves Invite held outside of Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday afternoon.
The Knights beat Bonanza High School 72-63.
Knights coach Don Witzel said by phone that Bonanza entered the game udefeated at 9-0.
“They press and run really well,” he said.
But the Knights were able to handle Bonanza, at one point running the score up to a 20 point lead, Witzel said.
Witzel said that the Knights held off a late push by Bonanza, then traded baskets for most of the fourth quarter.
Allie Grazulis lead the Knights with 20 points, while Alex Coon added 18.
The Knights will take on Foothills High School, another Vegas team, at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
In other action:
• The Colony boys lost in the semifinals of the Service Tip-off tournament in Anchorage 49-43 to Bartlett Friday night. Brcye Jacobson lead the team with nine points. Saturday night, the Knights played Seward for third place, but fell short, losing 52-37. Connor Larson led the Knights with 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers in the loss.
• The Palmer girls lost to Juneau 49-58 Friday night in Juneau. Jaimi Cox lead the moose with 11 points, while Kelsey Campbell contributed 10. The girls fell to the Crimson Bears again Saturday 45-27.
• Juneau defeated the Palmer boys 51-41 Friday night in Juneau. On Saturday, the Moose boys lost in a close game against Juneau 62-60.
