Prep hoopsters selected to all-state team

The Daily News/Alaska media all-state basketball selections were released Wednesday, with many Valley players showing prominently among the state's best.

Wasilla senior forward Adam Fitt-Chappell and junior center Ray Schafer were voted to the boys' 3A-4A first team, with Palmer senior's Zac Forsyth and Zach Pettit receiving honorable mentions.

Andrew Smith of Bartlett was selected as the boys' 3A-4A player of the year.

Dan Eide of Valdez was named boys' 3A-4A coach of the year.

Thomas Kelly, a 6-for-4 senior from Matanuska Christian School was honored with a third-team selection for the 1A-2A boys.

Tim Keener of Cook Inlet Academy was named boys' 1A-2A coach of the year.

Justin Franchino of Cook Inlet Academy was selected as the boys' 1A-2A player of the year.

Seniors Brittney Kroon of Wasilla and Kelly Quinn of Colony were honored with first-team selections for the 3A-4A girls.

Wasilla senior Tonya James was selected to the second team, with sophomore teammate Chandice Cronk selected to the third team.

Natalie Jones of East was selected as the girls' 3A-4A player of the year.

Dorena Bingham of East was named 3A-4A coach of the year.

Whitney Leman of Ninilchik was selected as the girls' 1A-2A player of the year.

Dan Leman of Ninilchik was named girls' 1A-2A coach of the year.
