Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

ANCHORAGE — The Colony Knights boys and girls cross country running squads posted top-10 finishes in the team standings of the Dimond Lynx Invitational at Kincaid Park in Anchorage on Saturday.
Freshman Alyssa Hutchins led the Colony girls to a a finish of eighth overall in a deep field that included programs from across the state. Hutchins was the first Valley runner to cross the finish line of the girls race, completing the Kincaid Park course in 20 minutes and 18.5 seconds.
Maria Wick (21:00.2) finished 31st for the Knights, while Abby Jahn (37th, 21:08.3) and Sydney Stewart (42nd, 21:18.7) also posted top-50 finishes.
The Wasilla girls also posted a top-10 finish in the team standings, ending the race ninth overall.
Katie Bialka finished 29th to lead the Warriors with a time of 20:58.3.
Alison Kelley (44th, 21:24.5), Rachel Hoffman (45th, 21:28.7) and Rachel Kennedy (46th, 21:29.7) finished within a five-second span.
Bailey Stevenson led Susitna Valley with a 35th-place finish and time of 21:06.
The Colony boys finished 10th overall in the team standings.
Tanner Enloe finished 35h to lead the Knights with a time of 17:46. Dylan Crawford (39th, 17:52.8) and Jeff Ford (42nd, 17:56) also broke the 18-minute mark. Steven Sinnett finished 47th for CHS at 18:00.3.
A pair of Wasilla runners placed in the top 50 to lead the Warriors to a 13th-place finish in the team standings.
Simon Fischer (17:54.1) finished a team-high 40th for the Warriors, while Michael Johnston (17:59.3) placed 46th.
Palmer junior Wylie Manglesdorf was the first Valley runner to cross the finish line, finishing 20th with a time of 17:22.
The Moose were 16th in the team standings.
Patrick Wise (68th, 18:17) and Brandon Wolsterman (100th, 18:54) also finished in the top 100 for the Moose.
Susitna Valley, led by Bill Kelly and his time of 19:33, finished 20th in the team standings.
Each of the five Valley programs — Colony, Houston, Palmer, Susitna Valley and Wasilla — will compete in the Mat-Su Borough Championships at Crevasse Moraine on Wednesday. The girls race is slated to start at 2 p.m., and the boys race will follow.
