Prep running: Knights split dual at Kodiak; Grace sweeps Su Valley Invite

KODIAK — The Colony Knights split in a cross country running dual against the Kodiak Bears in Kodiak on Saturday.

Three athletes placed in the top five to lead Colony to a two-point win over the Bears in the girls’ race. Heidi Doner finished third to lead the Knights. Maria Wick and Sydney Stewart followed in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Liza Laughlin finished seventh and Caitlin Skvorc was 10th for the Knights.

In the boys’ race, Kodiak — undoubtedly the top program in the state — cruised to an 18-point win over the Knights.

Despite the finish in the team standings, one Colony athlete enjoyed a career day. Mason Wick finished second with a time of 16 minutes and 50 seconds, a personal best for a trail run.

Jeff Ford finished sixth for the Knights, followed by Dave Gray (eighth), Tanner Enloe and Jon Jensen (12th).

Grace sweeps

Su Valley Invite

TALKEETNA — Grace Christian swept the team titles at the Susitna Valley Invitational in Talkeetna on Saturday.

The Grizzlies earned a convincing 17-point win in the girls’ class, but earned a slim, two-point win in the boys’ race.

Anchorage Christian School can boast both individual champions of the 23rd annual Invite. Nychele Fischetti won the girls’ race with a mark of 18 minutes and 43 seconds, while teammate Michael Miller finished first in the boys’ class at 16:09.

Host Su Valley finished fourth in the girls’ team standings and sixth in the boys’.

Marisa Scott (21:13) finished eighth to lead the girls, while teammates Kristjana Timmers (22:09) and Ashley Evans (22:25) followed at 15th and 20th.

Kasandra Morris led the Houston Hawks with a 28th-place finish.

Matthew Krepel (18:23) led the Su Valley boys with a 30th-place finish. Paxon Matthews (18:23) was 35th.

Chris Ashland (18:14) finished 27th to lead the Hawks. Dillon Styers (18:39) placed 33rd for HHS.
