PALMER — Two matches. Two shutouts. Two big Northern Lights Conference wins for the Palmer girls.
The Moose blanked the Kodiak Bears twice during their two-day weekend stay in Kodiak.
Moose goalkeeper Shaleen Tolbert recorded her second straight shutout, leading the Palmer to a 2-0 win over the Bears Saturday morning. Also for the second straight day, Tolbert came up with a huge save late to keep the Bears off the scoreboard. Late in the win Saturday, Tolbert came up with the save on a Kodiak breakaway. Late in the 4-0 win on Friday, Tolbert stopped a Kodiak penalty kick.
Senior Kiley Fish used corner kicks to set up both Palmer goals Saturday. Junior Kendall Ruble scored off a Fish corner kick in the first half to give the Moose a 1-0 lead. Senior Caile Dosser knocked in a header in the second half to push Palmer’s advantage to 2-0.
Friday, Catherine Uschmann led Palmer with a pair of goals in the NLC win. The freshman gave Palmer the quick lead with a goal during the first minute of play, and added her second goal during the 25th minute. Dosser and Arta Hadjari also scored for Palmer.
The Palmer boys also played Kodiak twice, hosting the Bears at Palmer High’s Machetanz Field. Saturday, Kodiak edged Palmer 3-2. Seniors Manveer Singh and August Gravesen both scored for the Moose in the loss.
Palmer and Kodiak played to a 2-2 NLC tie Friday evening at Palmer High.
Gravesen and Isaiah Montoya each scored for the Moose. Jeremy Houston and Hayden Hartman recorded assists.
Warriors split with Homer
The Wasilla Warriors split a pair of nonconference matches against Homer Saturday afternoon at Wasilla High School.
Nicole Catlett bagged a goal and an assist to lead Wasilla to a 3-0 girls’ soccer victory over the Mariners. Emily Summers and Kamryn Broach also scored for Wasilla. Alexs Kvalheim recorded her fifth shutout of the season in the Wasilla net.
The Homer boys used a goal in the 79th minute to edge Wasilla 2-1.
Moose blast Hawks
The Palmer boys earned their first victory of the season, an 8-0 win NLC win over Houston Wednesday at Palmer High.
Manveer Singh and Isaiah Montoya each bagged a hat trick in the win. Pedro Gonzalez and Mitchell Phipps also scored. Reed Godden finished with four assists.
Thursday, Juneau-Douglas topped Palmer 4-2. Singh and Hayden Hartman both scored for Palmer.
Warriors, Crimson Bears play to tie
Wasilla and Juneau-Douglas played to a scoreless girls’ soccer draw Friday evening at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla head coach Patrick O’Neill said both sides feature, “really strong back lines,” which led to limited opportunities for both teams in the match.
Mariners blank Hawks
The Homer Mariners posted a 7-0 win over the Houston Hawks Friday night at Houston High School.
