Seven members of the Wasilla girls cross country running team have been named the co-Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student-Athletes of the Week.

Seniors Cori Schleich and Alice Strick; juniors Jessica Pahkala and Morgan Dampier; sophomores Mandi Ringgenberg and Jenna Ford; and freshman Mariah Burroughs helped the Warriors win their first state championship in cross country running in school history last Saturday at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.

The Warriors finished with 71 total points, a dozen better than second-place South Anchorage.

Ford was the first Warrior to cross the finish line, placing fifth. Burroughs followed in sixth place.

The state title capped a perfect season for the Warriors. Wasilla finished first in the team standings in every meet it entered in 2010.

The Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman congratulates the Warriors on their success.
