The members of the Wasilla Warriors wrestling team have been named the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman Student-Athletes of the Week.
The Warriors captured the team title during the ASAA/First National Bank 4A State Wrestling Championships Saturday at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center.
Wasilla used a stellar effort during the second day of the tourney to come from behind and finish ahead of Service in the team standings. Wasilla qualified a tournament-high 21 wrestlers for the state meet. About half of those athletes placed in the top-6 for Wasilla.
The title was Wasilla’s first since 2005 and fourth in the last eight seasons. Wasilla also won the team titles of the Alaska State Duals Championships and the Northern Lights Conference Championships.
The Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman congratulates the Warriors on their success.
