FAIRBANKS - Susitna Valley scored a pair of top-3 finishes during the Region II Track and Field Championships at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks last week.
Led by Kristjana Timmers, Su Valley finished second in the girls' standings with 81 total points.
Timmers won the high jump event, with a mark of 4 feet, 8 inches. The region title gave her an automatic berth to the state championships, which start today at West Valley High School in Fairbanks.
Timmers edged teammate Caitlin Hunt in the high jump event. With a mark of 4-6, Hunt finished third.
Hunt was also second in the 200, third in the long jump and fourth in the 100.
Timmers finished second in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles.
Genna Moses finished in the top-4 of four different events. Moses was second in the discus, third in the triple jump, fourth in the shot put and fourth in the 800.
Bill Kelly and Kevin Wise each won individual region titles and helped the Su Valley boys finish third in the team standings with 65 points.
Kelly edged teammate Galen Johnston to win the triple jump, while Wise won the high jump with a mark of 5-0.
Johnston also fared well in the distance events, finishing third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200.
