Prep track: Knights sweep Mat-Su meet

WASILLA - Colony High School swept the team titles of the Mat-Su Borough Track and Field Championships, hosted by Wasilla High School earlier this week.

In its last action until next week's Northern Lights Conference championships, Colony earned 123 points to finish first in the girls team standings, and 171 points to end at the top of the boys teams standings.

Three members of the Colony girls squad won multiple events.

Senior Hallie Huggins finished first in the 100-meter, 200, 100 hurdles and long jump. Senior Jade Oleck swept the throwing events, winning the shot put and discus. Ardreinne Everett finished first in the 300 hurdles and long jump.

Wasilla senior Suzanna Caldwell won a pair of events to lead the Warrior girls to a second-place finish in the team standings. Caldwell won the 800 and 1,600. Jessica Gross helped the Warriors complete the sweep in the distance events, winning the 3,200.

Jessica Odegard and Rosanna Lincecum each won individual titles, and helped Palmer to a third-place finish in the girls' standings.

Odegard won the 400, while Lincecum won the high jump.

Palmer's 400 relay team also was first.

Susitna Valley finished first in the 800 relay, and fourth in the team standings with 32 points.

Six different athletes earned first-place finishes for the Colony boys squad.

Mike Zagers won the 110 hurdles and the triple jump. Antone Zagers (3,200), Joe Cook (1,600), Roy Erhart (400), David Registe (200) and Cody Huggins (800) also won events.

Palmer finished second in the boys standings with 112 points.

Senior Jeremy Weber (300 hurdles), junior Frank Marden (high jump) and junior Nate Svedin (discus) won events for

Palmer.

The Moose also finished first in the 400 relay and 800 relay.

Senior Steven Cliborn led Wasilla with a win in the 100. The Warriors finished third in the team standings.

Senior Bradd Erickson led Houston with a win in the shot put.

The NLC championships start Friday at Palmer High School.
