Prep track: Warriors host Colony in dual

The Wasilla High School track and field squads hosted an informal dual meet with Colony on Tuesday at Wasilla High School.

Kevin Harless led the Warrior boys with a pair of wins. Harless finished first in the long jump, with a leap of 16 feet, 10 inches. He also won the 200 meter, with a time of 24.81 seconds, edging second-place Jeremy Jorgenson of Colony.

Also winning for Wasilla were Chris Lafe in the shot put and Otis Williams in the 100.

Bradley Truax led the Knights by finishing first in the 400, fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100.

On the girls' side, Sierra Hodgson led the Knights with a pair of wins.

The freshman finished first in the long jump and the 100 meter.

Hodgson's leap in the long jump, 13-10 1/2, was four inches better than second-place Kayla Oosting, of Wasilla.

Sophomore Jenna Johnson won the shot put, with a throw of 30-11. Colony's Alex Coon was second.

Also winning for Wasilla were Shelby Fulton (200) and Samantha Lewis (800).

Palmer Relays

starts Friday

Palmer High School is hosting its annual Palmer Relays track and field meet today and Satuday at PHS.

Thirteen programs are slated to compete in both the boys and girls class, including each of the five Mat-Su Valley schools - Palmer, Wasilla, Colony, Houston and Susitna Valley.

Also invited are West Anchorage, Grace Christian, Cook Inlet Academy, Chugiak, Eagle River, Sitka, Juneau and Kodiak.

The field events begin today at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m., while the running events are scheduled to start Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Unique to the Relays are the events sanctioned By Special Olympics Alaska. Local Special Olympics athletes have the opportunity to compete in four events - the shot put, long jump, 100 meter and 400 meter relay.
