Prep volleyball: Palmer 2nd at Anchorag tourney

ANCHORAGE — Palmer overcame an early loss to South Saturday morning, working through the loser’s bracket to earn a championship rematch with the Wolverines in the finals of the Dimond/Service Tournament.

“We got lots and lots of quality playing in,” Palmer coach Steve Reynolds said following the match.

After falling to South in the morning, the Moose went on to deffeat West Valley, Chugiak, Grace Christian and Dimond en route to the finals.

The Moose run finally ran out of steam in the finals, as the Wolverines were able to pull out a 2-1 victory to take home the top spot.

Reynolds said he was pleased with the way his team was able to battle back for second place.

“It was a good tournament,” he said.

Named to the all-tourney team for the Moose were seniors Geneva Ratcliffe, Sarah Svedin and Nicole Kenney.

Wasilla 3, North Pole 1 (Fri.)

Lathrop 3, Wasilla 1 (Sat.)

Wasilla split with two Fairbanks foes Friday and Saturday in the Interior.

On Friday, the Warriors picked up a four-game win, beating North Pole 25-19, 11-25, 25-17 and 25-19.On Saturday, the Lathrop Malemutes handed the Warriors a four-game loss, winning by 25-17, 21-25, 25-13 and 25-21 scores.
